What began as one veteran’s fight to provide for his family has grown into a movement of hope, healing, and purpose.

After leaving his job due to medical challenges and caring for his two autistic children, Adam Arriero turned hardship into action — founding Veteran Home Builders to create stability not only for himself, but for other veterans searching for a new mission.

Through every project, Veteran Home Builders gives back — donating 10% of each job to Building Stronger Veterans, the nonprofit born from that same vision. Together, they don’t just build houses — they build lives.

With every hammer swung, veterans rediscover purpose. With every home, a life is rebuilt. With every act of service, a community grows stronger.

From Hardship to Hope – The Birth of Building Stronger Veterans

Every great mission begins with a moment of truth — a moment when life demands more from us than we ever thought we could give.

For Adam Arriero, that moment came after years of service, sacrifice, and struggle. A U.S. veteran, a father, and a man determined to rebuild his life after losing nearly everything, Adam’s journey to create Veteran Home Builders and Building Stronger Veterans wasn’t born out of opportunity — it was born out of necessity, purpose, and love.

After leaving his role as a correctional officer in 2017 due to medical issues and the growing need to be home with his two young autistic children, Adam found himself at a crossroads. With limited options and an unwavering sense of responsibility, he turned to what he knew best — hard work, integrity, and service. He started Merica Construction LLC, not as a business venture, but as a lifeline — a way to provide for his family while continuing to serve others.

What began as a one-man construction company slowly transformed into something far greater. Adam realized that through rebuilding and restoring homes, he could build hope. As he worked on houses across The Treasure Valley, he saw firsthand how many veterans were living on the edge — homeless, jobless, or simply without purpose. He knew their pain because he had lived it. He knew their resilience because it was his own.

From that realization came a vision — one where Veteran Home Builders would not only build homes for paying clients, but also fuel a larger mission: to rebuild the lives of those who once served our nation.

Adam rebranded his company as Veteran Home Builders (VHB) — a mission-first construction company that donates 10% of every project to Building Stronger Veterans (BSV), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit he co-founded to end veteran homelessness. But BSV was never meant to be a handout. It was built on the idea of empowerment through rebuilding— a four-pillar model that helps veterans regain stability in Housing, Health & Wellness, Education & Skill Development, and Purposeful Employment.

The two entities — one for-profit, one nonprofit — became two halves of a greater whole. Through VHB, Adam provides meaningful employment and hands-on training for veterans, helping them develop real-world skills and purpose. As well as providing a consistent source of much needed funding for BSV. Through BSV, he offers safe housing, community, and a pathway toward long-term independence. Together, they form a sustainable ecosystem of hope — one where veterans help build the very homes that help rebuild their lives.

Today, Building Stronger Veterans is more than an organization — it’s a movement. It’s a homegrown, Idaho-born mission powered by compassion, community, and courage. From tiny homes and resource centers to events like Ammo Therapy Day, BSV continues to bring veterans together, heal invisible wounds, and remind them that they are never alone.

Adam’s story — and the story of VHB and BSV — is proof that when you rebuild with purpose, you don’t just build structures.
